The Future of Agriculture

We believe in the future of agriculture.

We believe in the past achievements of former Washington FFA members and the 85-year foundation they built for us. Our current success is the direct result of the hard work of advisors, agriculturists, and members alike. They believed in the promise of premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education and FFA.

We believe in the ability of agriculturists to provide for the soon-to-be 9 billion people in our world, and in their task to move forward and conquer the challenges of a growing population. We have witnessed the incredible impact that production agriculture makes on the lives of others and are grateful for the men and women that dedicate their lives to our well-being.

We believe that our backgrounds do not define our futures. And that the ability to lead is as diverse as our fellow FFA members. As leaders, we are called to know when to lead, and also when to follow in service. Each of us has a vision for the future, made even more special by the uniqueness among us.

We believe in the rewarding power of service. Giving time, talent, and treasure to those in every level of need. Offering helping hands, kind hearts, and gracious smiles wherever they are wanted. In the importance of giving my all as we give all back, and in the redeeming value of living a selfless life.

We believe that FFA is opportunity; the opportunity to grow, to lead, and to succeed. FFA empowers us to take charge of our own futures, and this corduroy allows us to stand up and stand out, as agriculturists and leaders all the same.

We believe that all of us, from the farmers in the field, to the students in our local classrooms, to the countless individuals working hard in every corner of our great nation are the future of agriculture. Computer technicians, scientists, business men and women, teachers, and FFA members... we need to work together to ensure agriculture’s importance for generations to come.

We all can exert the influence of unity to show that together we are the future of agriculture!

2.  “Freestyle” Video

This is an open category to show off your creative skills, and of course your chapter! The top videos in this category will be posted on the Washington FFA Facebook page to determine the Fan Favorite, based on the total number of likes, comments, and shares!

Due: May 8th by 5pm to

Use to send your video file.

Chapters may submit one video for each category. The video should be no longer than 3:00 minutes exactly. If your video is longer than 3:00 minutes, it will not be considered for the competition.

  • Overall video quality (including audio)
  • Message (what story are you telling in the video?)
  • Creativity and originality

Important note on copyright: DO NOT use copyrighted music or other material in your video, as it will prevent us from posting the video online. Examples of improper use of copyrighted material: creating a “music video” in which chapter members lip sync to a popular country song; or using a pop song as a background track in your video. We strongly encourage you to use purchased or free stock music tracks and video footage which have been made available for commercial use.

National FFA Convention Recap & Highlights - by: Megan Miller, 2014-15 State Treasurer

During the 87th National FFA Convention and Expo, the Washington FFA Delegates (Apolinar Blanco, Rebecca Foote, Maya Wahl, Megan Miller, Samantha Brown, Liz Bumstead, and Paige Kershaw) took the National Officers up on their challenge to “Go All Out!” and participated fully in all aspects of Convention. Among the various tasks of being a National Delegate, the team found the time to enjoy the various booths throughout the FFA Career Fair and Expo hall, along with checking out the FFA Mall and Megastore!

Washington Delegates were among the 11% of members who attended the record-breaking convention at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville, Kentucky.  More than 64,400 members made their way to the National Convention.  There were also memorable speeches from business professionals such as the Tyson Foods CEO Donnie Smith and Elanco President Jeff Simmons, as well as inspirational calls-to-action from motivational speakers Nick Vujicic and Jane Herlong, who demanded that FFA members be resilient; follow their dreams and ultimately strive to be  leaders who will change the world. Alongside the amazing stories from the keynote speakers, Washington Delegates were inspired by the Retiring Addresses from this year’s National Officers during each of the general sessions. The 87th National FFA Convention and Expo ended on a high note with the celebration of an all-time membership count of 610,240 with 7,665 chapter across 50 states, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, as well as the announcement of the six new National Officers:

National President: Andy Paul (Georgia); National Secretary: Victoria Maloch (Arkansas); National Eastern Region Vice President: Ruth Ann Myers (Kentucky); National Central Region Vice President: Kristen Schmidt (Colorado); National Western Region Vice President: Caleb Gustin (New Mexico); National Southern Region Vice President: Stephen McBride (Tennessee)

National FFA Convention - Kentucky, we're headed your way! By: Apolinar Blanco, State President

On October 29-November 1, the Washington State FFA Officers and Washington's 7th delegate, Paige K., are heading to Louisville, Kentucky where they are going to be taking part in the 87th National FFA Convention. They will be serving as voting delegates for Washington and responsible for delegate committee work on the following topics: Ag Conference, AgCN, Careers in Ag Ed, CDE Evaluation, FFA/AgEd Advocacy, and Middle School participation. They will be accountable for working together with other state delegates in order to ensure that these committees are planned out thoroughly before being presented to the National Board. Best of luck to all state FFA members who will be representing Washington at the national level.  The 2014-15 Washington State officer team is looking forward to see you all in Louisville in a few short weeks. We feel honored to be representing the wonderful Evergreen State and look forward to meeting with each and every one of you on your "Route to Success."

They Don the Blue and Go for Gold! By: Megan Miller, State FFA Treasurer

The Washington State FFA Officer Team kicked off their 2014 Blue and Gold Leadership Tour on September 23rd at Quincy High School. The first stop on the FFA Highway was at District 9, with a showing of more than 300 members from Kahlotus to Ephrata…all eager to learn more about how to follow their “Route to Success.”  Not only was this year’s state theme introduced, but the state officers gave workshops on topics ranging from teamwork and respect to educating the members on how to set ‘SMART’ goals, general leadership skills, and lastly how to navigate peer pressure while making good choices. We decided that these workshops would best equip our members with the tools necessary to a successful career, and introduce them to the world of opportunity that is the National FFA Organization.

While we are still in the middle of our Blue and Gold Leadership Tour, we are already so pleased with the amount of dedication and passion exhibited by our members across the state, and we cannot wait to see what the rest of the tour may bring. One thing is for sure, the FFA Highway never fails to bring with it a wealth of memories and motivated members! Check out our schedule below to see all of the tour dates.

September 23, 2014     District 9-Quincy & District 2-Enumclaw

September 24, 2014    District 3-Rochester

September 25, 2014    District 1-Stanwood & District 8-Castle Rock
